THE TICK

AKA: “Well nigh invulnerable” justice junkie (can be found on Fox and Comedy Central)

Define The Tick in just one word? Dense. He’s saved the world on countless occasions, domesticated a capybara (he thinks it’s a dog), played personal assistant to a planet-eater, morphed into a two-headed bird able to speak only high-school French and survived being flattened by a genetically engineered clown. OK, so he still doesn’t have a girlfriend, but… well, it’s more than you’ve done! — Michael Peck

-So, what’s your latest hobby-night project?
It is my intention to build a one-third-scale Polynesian longship out of carpet remnants and those little plastic patio tables they put in the pizza box to prevent undue smooshage. Scoff if you must! (12 seconds)

-Any dieting tips for maintaining your 400-pound fighting weight?
Step one: Eat everything. Step two: Do a thousand-thousand chin-ups on the chin-up bar of titanic adversity. Step three: Repeat steps one and two until desired effect is achieved. (13 seconds)

-What’s the key ingredient in a memorable wedding reception?
Well, if memorable is what you want, then I would suggest lots of fire and explosions, a few close calls and a long gaze into the skinless, smiling face of death. You might want to think twice about “memorable.” I’d go with pleasant. (15 seconds)

-Yoko’s blamed for splitting up the Beatles — what woman could do the same to you and Arthur?
Yoko, I guess. She seems pretty good at it. Yoko, please don’t split us up! Aren’t you happy enough with your music and your art? Why spend your life wedging yourself between warm, loving men who work together to better the world? (15 seconds)

-If you were a tree, what sort of tree would you be?
Electric journalist! You are dancing at the edge of loopy with this last question. I am not a tree! I don’t know what trees think — what they feel. What if elm trees are discontent? What if the mighty oak suffers from chronic fatigue? What if cedar trees have an itch that they can never, ever scratch? No, Mr. World Wide Whoop-de-doo, I’ll not be party to your fever dreams. No sir! (27 seconds)

-You’re crowned Miss America — what do you do to promote adult literacy?
What kind of crazy are you selling? Crowned Miss America? On what planet? I don’t think you’re taking this interview seriously. It is my understanding, weirdo, that most — if not all — Miss Americas are women. Sexist? Yes! But you and I both share the misfortune of living in an imperfect world. Now fly right, mister! Next question! (24 seconds)

-I’m the last woman on earth. Flirt with me.
Good heavens! How did you get this job? Oh, all right. We’ll play your twisted little reindeer game if it makes you feel better about yourself. Let’s see. You’re the last woman on earth. Reproduction imperative for species survival. Hey, baby, can I open that jar for you? (25 seconds)

-Big government — help or hindrance?
Well, depends on what size we’re talking about here. If all the elected officials in the government were, say, 15 feet tall, that would be way too big. How would they shake hands with the relatively tiny leaders of other countries? Where would they shop for shoes? Egad! How could they hold a pencil, let alone legislate? Hindrance! Hindrance! Turn back while you still can! (25 seconds)

-What TV shows do you watch? Why?
Oh, TV. You wiry, plastic siren! You deft butcher of the attention span! You wretched cathode-ray prison of the mind! The Patty Duke Show. And why? Because what are the odds? Identical cousins? You’ve got a better chance of being struck by lightning while sunbathing on top of a UFO than having an identical cousin! Why, the show crackles with just that kind of lunacy! (31 seconds)

-Could you sing us your favorite TV theme song of all time?
Oh. Well, I’m sure I could give it an honest try [sings The Patty Duke Show theme]. Well, that’s pretty close, I guess. (21 seconds)
